Sperm Banks : Donor 44
The issue of sperm banks has always baffled me. How this idea ever became a reality I will never understand.
For those of you who do not know, sperm banks are clinics where sperm is stored to later be used for artificial insemination. I agree with this when it is used by a couple who are having a difficult time conceiving, I agree with this when a man is suffering from a disease and needs to save some sperm for when he meets a would-be mother of his children, but I DO NOT agree with it, when some lonely woman (or even couples) go in there to get pregnant by an anonymous sperm donor!
The first two sperm banks were opened in Iowa City, USA and Tokyo, Japan in 1964. Currently, those babies have grown up. And because a donor could donate several times, that means each man can have several babies, who are actually brothers and sisters, who have no idea that they are brother and sister. I mean what if they get married??
I always wondered about this, but what brought this is up is a show I was just watching, which had 2 sisters who somehow found each other by looking up the clinic and 'donor 44' on a website. How sad is that?
I looked at their mom's and they were both beautiful intelligent woman. Which confused me even more. Why would an intelligent woman make such a decision. How selfish can a woman be to want to have a fatherless child? Instead of adopting and taking care of a child, (while letting that child know they are adopted of course).
Also, what kind of government allows babies to just grow without knowing their biological heritage?
I don't get it, I really don't.
